Building a new house?

When to call us for electrical

Most electrical work in a new house happens before the walls are plastered. We work alongside your foreman or contractor, and we quote from your plans.

  1. Before plastering

Conduits and boxes go into the walls before they're plastered. We agree the layout with you first.

  2. Plan every outlet

Aircon, fridge, stove and outlets placed where you'll actually use them.

  3. Panel and grounding

Panel location and grounding planned from the start.

  4. Fit-out at the end

Switches, outlets and lights go on after painting, then every circuit is tested.

Fixing or replacing?

The electrical problems we see most

Breakers that keep tripping

A circuit is overloaded, or there's a fault in the wiring.

Hot or burnt outlets

Loose connections and undersized wire heat up.

Extension cords everywhere

Too few outlets, so the house runs on cords.

No grounding

Many older houses have no ground wire, so appliances can shock.

How we do it right

Our electrical checklist

  1. Find the cause first

Before replacing anything, we find out why it's failing.

  2. Right wire for the load

Wire sized for what the circuit actually runs.

  3. Own circuit for big loads

Aircon and heavy appliances on their own circuits.

  4. Grounded

A proper ground, so a fault trips the breaker instead of shocking someone.

  5. Labelled panel

Every breaker labelled so you know what it controls.

  6. Tested

Every circuit tested before we leave.

Before you hire anyone

Four questions to ask any electrician

Ask whoever you're thinking of hiring, us included. A good answer is specific. "Don't worry, boss" isn't an answer.

  1. Who does the work, and are they licensed?
  2. What wire size are you using?
  3. Will the aircon have its own circuit?
  4. Is the house grounded?

Questions

Electrical: what people ask

My breaker keeps tripping. Is that dangerous?

The breaker is doing its job: something is overloaded or faulty. Don't tape it on or swap in a bigger breaker. Have it checked.

Can you add more outlets?

Yes, on circuits that can handle the load, so you can retire the extension cords.

Do you handle permits?

Ask us when you message. It depends on the job.
