Building a new house?

When to call us for roofing

We can quote your roof from the plans, before the walls are even up. We work alongside your foreman or contractor, and we quote from your plans.

  1. Before the trusses go up

Send us the plans or the roof size. We quote the frame, sheets and fastening together.

  2. Frame stage

Trusses and purlins spaced for the sheets you choose, so nothing has to be redone.

  3. Roof closed before the ceiling

Sheets, ridge and flashing finished and checked before anyone builds the ceiling below.

  4. Gutters and edges last

Gutters and edge flashing go on once the walls and fascia are done.

Fixing or replacing?

The roofing problems we see most

Rusted purlins and nails

Old roofs are often nailed down, and the steel purlins under the sheets rust through. New sheets on a rotten frame won't last.

Sheets lifted by wind

In a typhoon, wind gets under the edges first. Loose ridge caps and unsealed edges are where roofs peel off.

Thin sheets

Cheaper sheets are thinner. They dent, rust faster and flex in the wind, and most quotes never say the thickness.

Leaks at the joins

Water gets in where sheets overlap, around vents, and where the roof meets a wall.

How we do it right

Our roofing checklist

  1. Check the frame first

Purlins, rafters and trusses. Anything rusted or rotten, you see in photos before we price it.

  2. Thickness on the quote

Brand, thickness, colour and quantity of every sheet, written down.

  3. Screws, not nails

Roofing screws with rubber washers, driven snug on the ribs at the right spacing.

  4. Overlaps the right way

Side laps facing away from the wind, end laps long enough for your roof's slope.

  5. Seal the edges

Ridge, eaves, gables, and wherever the roof meets a wall.

  6. Clean up

Offcuts and loose screws picked up. Old sheets hauled away or left for you, your choice.

Before you hire anyone

Four questions to ask any roofer

Ask whoever you're thinking of hiring, us included. A good answer is specific. "Don't worry, boss" isn't an answer.

  1. What thickness are the sheets you're quoting?
  2. Will you check the purlins before you start, and show me?
  3. Screws or nails, and how far apart?
  4. If it leaks after the first heavy rain, will you come back free?

Questions

Roofing: what people ask

How long does a re-roof take?

It depends on the size of the roof and the weather. Your written quote has a start date and a finish date.

Can you re-roof without removing the ceiling?

Usually, yes. We work from above and protect the ceiling. If water has already damaged it, we show you before anything is added.

Do you do commercial roofs?

Yes. Shops, warehouses and rentals. We can plan the work around your opening hours.
