When to call us for roll-up doors

A roll-up door needs space and solid walls that are easy to plan now and hard to fix later. We work alongside your foreman or contractor, and we quote from your plans.

  1. Plan the headroom

The rolled-up door sits above the opening. Tell us early and we'll give you the space it needs above the lintel.

  2. Solid sides

The rails bolt into the columns beside the opening, so those need to be solid concrete.

  3. Power for a motor

Want a motor? Have an outlet placed near the top of the opening while the wiring goes in.

  4. Install after the floor

We fit the door once the floor is finished, so the bottom closes flush.

Fixing or replacing?

The roll-up doors problems we see most

Too heavy to lift

The spring tension is wrong or worn, so you fight the door every morning.

Jams and grinding

Bent guide rails, dented slats, or dirt packed in the tracks.

Rust at the bottom

The bottom bar and lower slats sit in rainwater and rust first.

Weak locks

A shop door is only as secure as its lock and how well the slats sit in the rails.

How we do it right

Our roll-up doors checklist

  1. Measure opening and headroom

So the roll and the motor fit above the opening.

  2. Specs on the quote

Slat gauge, finish and lock type, written down.

  3. Rails plumb and solid

Fixed into solid concrete, checked straight top to bottom.

  4. Spring set to balance

So the door is light to lift and stays where you leave it.

  5. Manual override

Motorised doors get a manual override for brownouts.

  6. Tested with you

Full open, full close and the locks, before we leave.

Before you hire anyone

Four questions to ask any roll-up door installer

Ask whoever you're thinking of hiring, us included. A good answer is specific. "Don't worry, boss" isn't an answer.

  1. What gauge are the slats?
  2. Is the spring adjusted so it's easy to lift?
  3. For a motor, is there a manual override if the power goes out?
  4. What do you do about rust at the bottom?

Questions

Roll-up doors: what people ask

Can you fix my old door instead of replacing it?

Often, yes. Rails, springs, slats and locks can be repaired. If replacing costs less over time, we'll tell you.

Manual or motorised?

Manual is cheaper and simple. Motorised suits wide or heavy doors used every day. We'll recommend what fits your opening.

Can you work around my shop hours?

Yes. We plan the work so your shop can stay open as much as possible.
