When to call us for ceilings and pvc panels

The ceiling goes in late in the build, after the trades above it are done. We work alongside your foreman or contractor, and we quote from your plans.

  1. After the roof is closed

The ceiling goes in once the roof is on and watertight.

  2. After wiring and pipes

Electrical and any pipes above the ceiling go in first.

  3. Mark the lights and fans

Decide where lights and fans go before we close the ceiling.

  4. Choose by room

PVC for wet areas, paintable board where you want a smooth finish.

Fixing or replacing?

The ceilings and pvc panels problems we see most

Sagging ceilings

Wooden frames bend, termites eat them, or leaks soak the boards.

Stains that come back

The stain was painted over but the leak above it was never fixed.

Wavy lines

The frame wasn't levelled, and you see it every time the light hits.

Termites in the frame

Wooden furring is food for anay.

How we do it right

Our ceilings and pvc panels checklist

  1. Fix the leak first

If there's a stain, we check the roof above before we touch the ceiling.

  2. Metal frame, levelled

Metal furring and carrying channels, levelled across the whole room.

  3. The right board

PVC where it's damp, board you can paint where you want a smooth finish.

  4. Straight joints, neat trim

Lines run true and edges are finished clean.

  5. Plan the lights first

Downlights and wiring planned before the ceiling closes.

  6. Clean up

Dust and offcuts gone before we leave.

Before you hire anyone

Four questions to ask any ceiling installer

Ask whoever you're thinking of hiring, us included. A good answer is specific. "Don't worry, boss" isn't an answer.

  1. Is the frame metal or wood?
  2. How do you make sure it's level?
  3. Will you fix the leak above it first?
  4. Which board do you recommend for my room, and why?

Questions

Ceilings and PVC panels: what people ask

PVC panels or gypsum board?

PVC panels don't mind moisture, need no painting and go up fast. Gypsum gives a smooth painted look but doesn't like water. Bathrooms, kitchens and covered outdoor areas suit PVC.

Can you put PVC panels on walls too?

Yes. They're easy to wipe clean, which suits kitchens, bathrooms and shops.

Can you add lights while you're at it?

Yes. We plan downlights and wiring before the ceiling closes, so nothing gets cut open later.
